Mitochondrial Aging Research

Mitochondrial aging theory questioned

University of Helsinki Press Release

Press coverage of our Nature Metabolism study challenging the 50-year-old mitochondrial theory of aging. We show that mtDNA defects cause accelerated aging through nuclear genome instability in stem cells, by sequestering DNA building blocks (dNTPs) into mitochondria and depleting them from the nucleus.
